How the Women in Digital program helped turn the key in my professional journey.
Like many people who start their education early on, I graduated with a degree in Law, and I was not happy with the field I had chosen for my career. Still in this market, I started a specialization in Consumer Law, and during this period, I had contact with Digital Marketing, where I really found myself and decided to go back to college.
An important point in my career transition and in my life, which also influenced the other experiences I will share, is that I grew up with and was strengthened by communities of women. Representation and collaboration among women have always been key for me.
It was on this path that I came to know, through social media, about Women in Digital (WiD), which is the VTEX program for accelerating women’s careers in digital commerce. WiD was a turning point in my professional journey. The contact with so much representation, so many women in this field, and learning about the different possibilities within digital commerce has influenced my journey all the way to the present.
Participation in the program had an impact on both my personal and professional life – which for me have always been intertwined. I was a little bewildered, finishing a second degree in Digital Marketing and having experiences in several communication areas, from press relations to social media, but I didn’t know how to channel and add value to all of this.
With WiD I got to see countless business sides and explore all the paths, from customer acquisition to shopping experience, customer retention, technology, post-purchase, and business, allowing me to understand what my possibilities were and how I could move forward in this field.
In addition, the program also helped me develop some of my strengths that were being under-worked and motivated me to support other women who are entering the digital arena, inspiring me to try to become a reference for those women.
Women in Digital and other programs that share that objective are essential in today’s world because they not only encourage women in the technology field, but also empowers them and allows them to see that it is possible to occupy those spaces in real life. The digital field is growing rapidly, and I believe that the present is already digital. It is essential to bring more women into the technology field, and that moves me. We as women need to strengthen each other, empower each other, and help make the technology field a place that welcomes women too.
In addition to having the opportunity to learn, for three months, daily, with women, about the digital commerce field, I am also having the opportunity to be part of the VTEX team as an International Business Developer. The culture of autonomy, collaboration, and mutual growth within the company has been making my eyes shine since the first day.
WiD collaborates with and drives change in the professional journey of many women who want to enter this market. Today, I can say with all certainty that I am happy being a woman who works in technology. And for the many women out there who dream of entering this field, my biggest tip is: Don’t be afraid to try and test things and look for new connections that propel you to be part of this ecosystem that has been gaining more and more momentum.
